Croatian school in Zlatar Bistrica became a hosting school of some Slovak pupils at the end of January. Thanks to Erasmus+ project, Slovak pupils had a possibility to destroy prejudices about Croatia, because lots of Slovaks associate Croatia with the seaside, summer, hot weather and relax. However, we went in January when the weather wasn´t so nice, surely not for sunbathing. We didn´t come to the seaside, but we discovered inland region of Croatia - Zagorje. We didn´t come for realxing, we came for working together, discovering, comparing, making friends etc.

On Thursday that week of a group mobility of pupils we worked hard in the school library.

Pupils read the Little Prince in advance, at home, then we took the Chapter 15 about travelling and exploring the world and we worked it in 3 different languages: Slovak, Croatian and English. Although Slovak is similar to Croatian, they belong to the same language family and they are both minor European languages, they are also different.

While Slovak pupils were reading in their mother tongue, Croatian pupils had to put the chapter 15 into the correct order. Then Slovak pupils checked them and the boy´s group did it very well, no mistake! They have got attentive ears!

We also read this 15th Chapter in English and as we were working in the school library, Croatian pupils took their books and read us a Chapter in their language, Slovak pupils had to pay attention and had to compare some vocabulary of two Slave languages.

The activity allowed us to become aware of language differences and we used comparative grammar method to compare languages which are quite similar and to be aware of minor European languages such as Slovak and Croatian.

Finally pupils worked their digital skills via an interactive exercise:
