Created by Sofía Mateo
Last updated by Sofía Mateo 1 year 1 month ago

The proposed activity has a double aspect.
a) In the morning we will meet several associations that work with refugees and immigrants in Zaragoza, such as "Ayuda a Refugiados Zaragoza", and "SOS Refugiados Europa". They will tell the students their voluntaray work and we will help them in a workshop. On the other hand, the Association of Syrian Refugees of Zaragoza has been contacted to have a meeting with members of said association, political refugees who had to flee Syria with the start of the war. The members of
the association will talk about what it means to be a refugee, the facilities or difficulties in obtaining refugee status and their current situation and that of their country. The students will interview the different members of the association in small groups.
The food for the activity will be at the Aleppo Castle Restaurant, run by Syrian refugees, where typical dishes from their country will be tasted.
b) In the afternoon, we will visit to the Goya Museum in Zaragoza. Goya is, perhaps, the most important political refugee who has had to flee Aragon as a result of his enlightened ideas in the 19th century. In the Museum, in addition to analyzing the figure of Goya, we will see his series of engravings "The Disasters of War", a universal plea against warmongering, madness and the barbarity of war.
The objectives of the activity are the following:
- Interview volunteers who work with immigrants and Syrian refugees, analyzing their migration history. At the same time, it also delves into Spanish immigration policy and what the term political refugee means today.
-Approach the Aragonese historical-artistic heritage through the study of the figure of Francisco de Goya, emigrant and refugee in Bordeaux, a universal symbol, through his paintings and engravings, of the denunciation of the cruelty of war.
