👀 And this is our plan, the OUTCOME OF OUR DIFFERENT INSIGHTS:👇

Step 1: Brainstorming about AI

Objective: To assess students' existing knowledge about AI and identify key areas for further exploration and clarification.

Tool: Mentimeter: See links sent to email to join my workspace on MENTI. Open yours only to get the link and share it with your students.

menti

Instructions:

Start with an interactive Mentimeter activity: Ask students to respond to the following questions:

What is AI (Artificial Intelligence)?

What AI tools do you know and use (e.g., Google Assistant, Siri, ChatGPT)?

What can AI do? (Encourage students to think of examples like translating, playing music, etc.)

Display answers on the screen in real-time to see students’ prior knowledge and discuss with the class any concept or tool that might require clarification.

Students will be able to vote their favourite tools:

mentivote

Language Tip: Encourage students to use simple phrases like "AI can..." or "I use AI to...". This helps keep their answers at an accessible language level.

Step 2: Warm-up Activity: AI vs. Humans

Instructions:

Prepare a chart with three columns:

Things both AI and humans can do.

Things only AI can do.

Things only humans can do.

Distribute a printed version of the sentences on slips of paper or display on a smartboard. (See examples  created by Portuguese Team)

To revise you can use this interactive game created by the Polish Team

ƵingApp

Discuss answers as a class, clarifying any unclear examples.

Language Tip: Give students phrases to use in discussions such as " Only AI can…" or "Humans are better at…".

Step 3: Teaching Basics about AI (e.g., AI, machine learning, algorithms).

Short motivational videos you can use:

Video1 by MIT Media Lab. This 7,38 minutes video introduces AI and how it's used in different careers. It  opens with the question “How would you define AI to middle school students?”. Pre-question guide 👉

.Video 2 (for younger students) 👉 by Ƶing Mole. Very simple video (1,30 minutes) that covers these questions you can use to check understanding if using in an English FL  class:

1️⃣ What AI is and how it's different from regular computers and machines 🖥️🌟

2️⃣ How AI learns and thinks just like us, using something called algorithms and machine learning 🎓🔍

3️⃣ Examples of AI in action, from voice assistants like Siri and Alexa, to self-driving cars 🚗💬

4️⃣ How AI is helping make the world a better place, from improving healthcare to protecting the environment 🏥🌳

5️⃣ The future of AI and the exciting possibilities it holds for us all 🚀🌌

Video 3👉, a 4,38 minutes video by the Museum of Science.his animated video describes how artificial intelligence works, where it can be found, and how it influences our lives.

Video 4 👉

Video 5👉

Video 6:

Activity: AI in Action (15 minutes)

After the video, ask students to think of a task they do daily (e.g., studying, playing sports, listening to music).

In pairs, have students discuss how AI could help with that task.

Example Prompts: "How can AI help me study better?" "Can AI recommend music to me?"

Have each pair present one idea to the class.

Language Tip: Provide sentence starters like "AI could help me by…" or "If I had AI, I would use it to…". This will help students practice forming sentences in English.

Step 4: Reviewing- Quiz

Tool: Quizizz

Alternatively you can download and  print the PDF version of the quiz 👇

You can add the questions below  for oral discussion with your class:

Name one thing AI can do better than humans.

What AI tool can help you translate languages?

Give an example of AI in everyday life.

How does machine learning differ from traditional programming?

Name one ethical concern associated with AI.

ٳ…

Wrap-up:

End the lesson by summarizing key points and encouraging students to think about how AI might affect their daily lives.
