Debate represents a valuable activity that promotes problem solving, innovative thinking, critical thinking as well as all other skills students need for academic and life achievements. Debates stand for cornerstone of every healthy society; therefore, it is essential to equip our students with skills that will sharpen their mind, help them build their character and the world around them. The ability to question arguments based on facts helps students make their own decisions. Articulating thoughts and transferring them into meaningful words combined with strong presentation skills improves not only students’ speaking skills, but also supports their self-esteem and conflict resolving skills. Debate enhances elaboration of our own ideas and forces us to be/become active listeners. It takes logical discussion to preform a successful debate, which implies thorough research required to structure coherent arguments. The element of time is there to help students prioritize their ideas. Within international teams we aim to prepare our students for various debate topics – those related to their specific school subjects (vocational schools) as well as those connected to general cultural and life competences. The actual debate will take place on virtual platforms. Debate topics will also be used to polish our students’ writing skills.
