Is your classroom eSafe? Ƶ Safer Internet Day

The growing use of digital tools in the classroom brings also a number of questions related to e-safety and handling of such issues. The annual Safer Internet Day challenges people across the globe to reconsider their take on online safety.

The Internet is part of daily practice of many classroom activities - for example, social media and mobile tools are used to access and share information. What do the new practices mean for e-safety in the classroom? How are online tools such as blogs, wikis, Twitter and Facebook used in the classroom in a safe and effective way? How should teachers manage issues such as copyright, privacy, personal safety and verification of sites? How do we get students to engage with these issues and their own personal safety proactively?

These and many other questions are in focus during (SID) taking place for the 12th time on 10 February 2015. Safer Internet Day is a global and open event for anyone interested to take part. For example, schools can join by organising their own internet safety activity, or join activities organised by national or local organisations working for e-safety. Last year, over 19,000 schools and 54 million people were involved in SID actions across Europe.

The teachers, educators and parents can find free online . The theme of this year’s Safer Internet Day is “Let's create a better internet together". Will you join, too?
