Advanced CLIL for Secondary School Teachers: Deepening your practical knowledge of CLIL - 7 days, Ireland
This course is designed for Secondary School Teachers who already have some training in CLIL and who wish to further deepen their knowledge of this methodology, acquire advanced concepts and skills, and create customised teaching materials based on their own teaching environment and the needs of their students.
Minimum Level of English required: C1
Description
Content and Language Integrated Ƶing (CLIL) was developed in the 1990’s as an innovative integrated approach to teaching subjects and languages. It is well established that CLIL was a crucial step towards a holistic approach to learning supported by the 4Cs framework of CLIL (Content, Communication, Culture and Cognition).
In a fast-changing educational landscape teachers and students alike benefit from an educational experience adapted to their environment. This course will allow participants to look at their own teaching environment, take time to reflect on it, recognise strengths and needs, and plan their lessons according to the outcomes of this reflective process. This will all be done through the lens of the 4Cs of CLIL integrating the subject (Content), the process involved in meaning-making (Cognition), the language needed to construct knowledge (Communication) and the way in which we interpret our world (Culture). An in-depth look at how to approach language planning, scaffolding, cooperative learning, collaborative dialogue and pluriliteracies will lead to the development of comprehensive lesson planning with the creation of realistic learning objectives, outcomes and evaluation criteria and assessment.
Participants should be Secondary School Teachers with a level of English corresponding to C1 in the Common European Framework (CEFR).
