Professional development opportunities for improving teaching through action research

The School Education Gateway’s Teacher Academy and eTwinning are offering a series of professional development opportunities throughout 2022 in relation to action research. Action research is a methodology that teachers can use to investigate an area of interest related to their profession by simply answering the question ‘How can I improve what I am doing?’

SHARMED: Shared Memories and Dialogue

SHARMED was an action-research project running from 2016–2018 that brought about an innovative learning experience to more than 1,000 children aged 9–11 in three countries. Photographs and other visual materials were used to spark dialogue around personal, family, and community memories and to teach children about cultural diversity in a respectful way.

How do I improve what I am doing? Action research as a means of promoting teachers’ professional development

Action research invites teachers to learn more about their classroom practice, enrich their pedagogical repertoire and reflect on the way they teach. Through action research, teachers’ attitudes, professional identities and expertise can keep evolving, as they consider their needs in their own context.
