Description

In this webinar, organised within the featured group Inclusive Education participants will be introduced to some ideas to what teachers can do to tackle and challenge gender stereotypes such as:

  • Letting the pupils gain empathy for the ‘other gender’ through literature
  • Facilitating boys and girls to engage in mutual activities
  • Signing up for a video competition so stop sexism

Also, ideas on talking gender stereotypes with those boys who feel that gender equality has gone ‘too far’. Finally, participants will get a short introduction to the teaching material which was developed in the EU-project TeachXevidence that speaker Marie Louise Petersen and her school participated in which resulted in the short eTwinning project ‘Love & Consent’.

At the end of the webinar participants are encouraged to share any comments or experiences on tackling gender stereotypes in education.

About the speakers

Marie Louise Petersen

Marie Louise Petersen works as a teacher in Denmark. She also holds a supplementary degree in Gender studies and has been engaged in gender issues alongside teaching for more than 30 years. In 2017 she created the group Gender-know-how to stop stereotypes on eTwinning which was a featured group until 2024. During those years Marie Louise moderated 17 webinars with various experts and researchers on gender and sexuality issues related to education. Marie Louise Petersen is an eTwinning-ambassador since 2014.
