Inclusive Education

The "Inclusive Education" eTwinning featured group serves as a collaborative platform for educators and stakeholders committed to fostering inclusive educational practices. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of eTwinning, this group will focus on what unites us as educators and the shared goal of creating inclusive educational environments. We will share resources, experiences, and strategies that promote the principles of inclusion and diversity in education, aligning with the profiles of pupils with fewer opportunities outlined in the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps Inclusion and Diversity Strategy. The group will be relaunched and moderated by Mª Cecilia Cantizano Mariscal, who will guide discussions and activities. By participating in this group, members will contribute to a shared mission of creating equitable and inclusive learning environments throughout Europe, while celebrating the unifying spirit of eTwinning's 20th anniversary.

🎒 Unpacking Gender Stereotypes in Our Schools 📊

Pinned

Our recent scavenger‑hunt‑style survey reveals that gender stereotypes remain a subtle but persistent part of school life, shaping how students are treated, the academic and extracurricular paths they feel expected to follow, and how nonconforming behaviour is received by peers and even teachers.

🧾 Key Insights:

  • While many educators responded neutrally when asked whether stereotypes appear in daily interactions or curriculum, there’s broad agreement that traditional gender roles are still often reinforced, both through student norms and, to a lesser extent, teacher behaviour.
  • Teasing and nonconformity-related bullying do occur, though not always overt or frequent.
  • Parental awareness around these stereotypes tends to be spotty, highlighting how much more we need to do to build awareness both in and out of the classroom.
  • Across the board, teachers believe gender-sensitivity training is essential, and almost everyone agrees that reducing stereotypes would improve school climate significantly.

💡 The consensus is clear: school leaders now have a powerful mandate. Students overwhelmingly support initiatives to dismantle outdated norms and promote gender equity.

🚀 What Should Happen Next?

Focus Area

Action Steps

Staff & Teachers

Launch comprehensive gender sensitivity training to help educators spot and address implicit biases.

Curriculum Design

Integrate explicit discussions of gender stereotypes and equity throughout coursework.

Student Empowerment

Support student-led projects and peer initiatives that challenge traditional gender expectations.

Parental Engagement

Host workshops, share resources, and communicate findings with families to widen support for change.

Policy & Monitoring

Enforce anti-bullying policies that explicitly protect gender expression, and conduct periodic survey audits to track progress.

📣 Why This Matters

When we actively address and reduce gender stereotypes:

  • Equitable classroom environments flourish.
  • All students feel included, encouraging broader participation in diverse interests.
  • School culture strengthens, fostering mutual respect, understanding, and fairness.

✨ We have a shared opportunity—and responsibility—to create a school where everyone can thrive, free from outdated norms. Let’s turn survey insights into action and build an educational environment rooted in gender equity.
