This professional development course aims to equip primary school teachers with the knowledge and skills to teach mathematics and nature studies in a way that is interactive, engaging, and inclusive.
The course focuses on integrating hands-on activities, videos, games, and practical situations into lessons, catering to the diverse needs of all students, including those with special needs.

Description

This course empowers teachers to create dynamic, inclusive, and engaging learning environments. By using a variety of teaching strategies, teachers will be able to ensure an enriching learning space that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and active participation. By integrating interactive methods, hands-on activities, and real-world scenarios, teachers will enhance their students' understanding and appreciation of mathematics and nature studies.

After the training course participants will be supported in the practical implementation of the newly acquired skills and competences. They are expected to deliver trainings to their students using the topics in the Mathematics for All and Nature Studies for All toolkits, which they will be taught how to use. 

The course providers will assign mentors to all teachers who will be at the participants’ disposal during a 6-month-period after the training course.

ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing objectives

  1. Develop interactive lesson plans that incorporate hands-on activities, videos, and games for teaching mathematics and nature studies.
  2. Use practical, real-world situations to enhance students' understanding of concepts.
  3. Implement strategies to support students with special needs, ensuring inclusive learning environments.
  4. Create an engaging and supportive classroom atmosphere that fosters participation from all students.
  5. Apply technology effectively in teaching to enhance student learning experiences.
  6. ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ more about the challenges Maltese teachers have faced in designing an inclusive environment through the planned sessions with the involvement of local teachers.
  7. ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ how to work in international teams through the group and pair activities.

Methodology & assessment

• Workshops: Interactive group activities, peer collaborations, discussions.
• Demonstrations: Teachers will observe live lessons showcasing interactive methods.
• Multimedia Resources: Videos, presentations and examples of engaging lessons.
• Hands-On Practice: Teachers will design and implement their own interactive lessons.
• Follow-up Support: Teachers will have access to ready-to-use resources and mentorship after the course to ensure successful implementation.
The standard programme comprises 7 days, dedicated to getting-to-know each other, the SENPower methodology and the structure of developed teachers’ toolkits, comprising lesson plans for teaching 46 topics, to understanding the importance of interactive teaching and how it improves student engagement and learning. The last day is about follow up – instructions how to implement the suggested trainings with students. Course participants will visit a local primary school and will take part in practical sessions and experiments.

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

The course resulted from the Erasmus+ project SEN Power. It designed toolkits for teaching specific topics from the primary school curricula in Mathematics & Nature studies. The designed educational materials & resources will be available for the course participants, aiming to support teachers in feeling more confident and equipped to make a meaningful impact in the lives of all students regardless of their abilities, providing quality education that empowers them to reach their full potential.

Certification details

At the end of the course, each participant will receive a Declaration of attendance.


We will support the participants in the certification process by delivering a special introductory session devoted to Europass ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing agreement and certificate of learning outcomes, as well as daily sessions for discussing and summing up the acquired knowledge and skills which will be described in the Europass ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing agreement and certificate of learning outcomes.

    Course fee: EUR 80 per day per participant: EUR 560 for the standard 7-day training course.

    Teachers in primary schools, trainers, school managers, pedagogical advisers and any other staff of education organizations are eligible to receive an Erasmus+ grant covering all the costs including travel, accommodation and daily subsistence, cultural activities and all fees. The training course is designed to be fully funded by the Erasmus+ Programme.
