This course includes developing skills for working cross - culturally, from initial contact to building lasting relationships. As well as developing a growth mindset, participants will practice mindfulness and critical thinking in a digital age.

Description

Objectives of this course include practising cross-cultural communication and collaboration, developing a growth mindset and learner autonomy, promoting critical thinking, managing digital distraction and fostering well-being through mindfulness, practicing real-life scenarios and learning to tailor language to the context. On completion of this course, participants will have developed as autonomous learners, and have greater confidence in their ability to use English in everyday situations with international students and colleagues.

ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing objectives

  1. Understand the Principles of Lifelong ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing: Participants will be able to define lifelong learning, explain its importance, and recognize its benefits for personal and professional growth.
  2. Develop Self-directed ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing Skills: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will demonstrate the ability to set personal learning goals, identify resources, and independently pursue new knowledge and skills.
  3. Apply Effective Study and ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing Techniques: Participants will acquire and apply various learning strategies, such as note-taking, memory techniques, and time management, to optimize their learning process.
  4. Identify and Leverage Personal ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing Styles: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will be able to identify their preferred learning styles and adapt learning strategies accordingly to enhance retention and comprehension.
  5. Build Critical Thinking and Problem-solving Skills: Participants will develop the ability to analyze information critically, evaluate sources, and approach problems with effective strategies.
  6. Utilize Digital Tools for ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will gain proficiency in using digital resources and tools, such as online courses, educational apps, and databases, to support continuous learning.
  7. Practice Effective Goal-setting: Participants will learn to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals for their personal and professional development.
  8. Develop Resilience and Adaptability: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will strengthen their ability to cope with challenges, embrace change, and adapt to new learning environments or demands.
  9. Enhance Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Participants will improve their ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and build networks that support lifelong learning.
  10. Engage in Reflective Practice: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will demonstrate the ability to reflect on their experiences, assess their progress, and identify areas for improvement.

Methodology & assessment

Methodology Tasks

Personal ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing Plan Creation: Participants will design a personalized learning plan, outlining their long-term learning goals, interests, and the steps they will take to achieve these goals.

Self-assessment and Reflection Journals: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will maintain a journal to regularly reflect on their learning experiences, identify areas for improvement, and track their progress over time.

Group Discussions and Peer ºìÌÒÊÓÆµing: Through collaborative discussions, participants will share insights, learning strategies, and experiences, promoting a community of shared knowledge and perspectives.

Problem-solving Workshops: Participants will engage in workshops that simulate real-world problems, encouraging them to apply critical thinking and creativity to develop effective solutions.

Digital Tool Exploration: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will explore and practice using various digital tools and resources (e.g., learning management systems, educational apps, databases) that support lifelong learning.

Goal-setting and Progress Tracking: Participants will set specific, measurable goals and create a timeline to achieve them. Periodic check-ins will allow them to assess their progress and make adjustments as needed.

Research and Resource Evaluation Exercises: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will practice identifying and evaluating the quality and relevance of different learning resources, such as articles, videos, and online courses.

Role-play and Networking Activities: Participants will engage in role-play activities that simulate professional networking scenarios, enhancing their communication and interpersonal skills in diverse settings.

Assessment Tasks

Capstone Project Presentation: ºìÌÒÊÓÆµers will complete a final project where they explore a topic of interest, applying the skills and strategies they have learned throughout the course, and present their findings to the class.
