SEL in My English Class

This project is a year-long, themed curriculum designed to support our students in developing social-emotional learning (SEL) and language skills through interactive and engaging activities. Each month, students explore a new theme, beginning with greetings and introductions in December, where they build social connections and practice polite expressions. Activities like "A Cup of ME!" and "Greeting Bingo" help them practice essential communication skills while using digital tools such as ChatterPix for personal introductions. These monthly themes build a foundation for language acquisition and confidence in interacting with others. As the year progresses, the themes move into personal and relational topics, such as family and loved ones, which help students strengthen self-awareness and empathy. For example, in January, students create family trees and discuss family structures, appreciating the diversity in family roles. February’s focus on “People I Love” allows students to express affection by making cards for loved ones and creating digital stories to share. The project also incorporates emotional recognition and expression in March with activities like “Emotion Faces” and “How Do You Feel?” charades, supporting students in understanding and communicating their feelings. The project concludes with themes related to community and environment, such as “Toys and Games” in April, “My House” in May, and “My City” in June. These units encourage students to describe their personal spaces, preferences, and neighborhood landmarks, fostering a sense of belonging and connection to their surroundings. Each theme integrates digital tools, such as drawing dream houses or animating dream toys, offering creative expression through technology. With a comprehensive approach, the project not only enhances students' SEL and language skills but also encourages digital literacy, preparing them for collaborative and self-directed learning experiences.

Time to say Goodbye to our project !

picnic

We wrapped up our project with a heartfelt closing picnic alongside our students—a joyful celebration to mark the end of a meaningful journey. Every parent of the participating students contributed something homemade—delicious cakes, pastries, stuffed grape leaves, and savory buns. I also made daisy-shaped cookies for the occasion.

We gathered at a lovely picnic area where I handed out certificates to my students. I also gave them dark blue and yellow balloons, reflecting the eTwinning colors. They took cheerful photos holding the balloons and posing one by one with me. I had also prepared a sticker featuring the eTwinning logo, which they proudly held in their photos.

The children played games, ran around freely, and enjoyed each other’s company. We closed the project in a way that truly reflected the spirit of social and emotional learning. It was a wonderful experience—both students and parents were genuinely happy. Many parents expressed their desire for the project to continue next year and hoped to be part of it again.

“Guess Who’s in Class Today? (Hint: They’re Not Students!)”

Today was all about fun, fluff, and English!
Our students brought their favorite toys to school and introduced them to their classmates—in English, of course! From lions to dolls to race cars, each toy had its moment of fame. 🌟

Next up: They’ll be introducing their toy friends to our international partners. Get ready, world—these toys are going global! 🌍✈️
