
Quality CLIL in Secondary and Vocational Education through a lens of equity and inclusion
The course will explore key features of CLIL with special attention to equality vs equity and inclusion as well as concepts of gender, culture and intercultural competence. Participants will have opportunities for self-reflection, sharing ideas and learning from & with other course participants. Concrete tools for teaching and supporting learning of diverse student groups will be introduced.
Description
The course is highly interactive. Course activities are based on a pre-course participant needs analysis and aim to model best CLIL teacher education practices. The working language is English. Materials are in English but participants have included people using other CLIL languages. When several participants share a language other than English, they are welcome to use that language in working with and supporting each other. The course facilitators have hands-on experience in CLIL and in CLIL professional development.
The course will take place in Galway on the western coast of Ireland. There is an accommodation option at the brand new Dunlin Village in student apartments of 4-6 rooms (each with private bathrooms) shared with other course participants. Dunlin Village is some 5-8 minutes walk from the Cairns building where the course venue is.
The total number of course hours is 30. The general daily schedule is from 9am to 4pm with 1-hour lunch break, other shorter breaks are jointly agreed upon on a daily basis.
An optional field trip to the Cliffs of Moher is offered at an additional fee if all participants wish to join.

The course aims to support participants in gaining insights into:
• equality vs equity and inclusion in education
• how to promote gender- and culture-specific issues in CLIL
To leave participants with some concrete tools for teaching and supporting learning of diverse student groups by offering opportunities:
• to adapt or create new lesson ideas and/or materials
• to adopt tools and strategies for improving equity and student learning
• to network and learn from other participants
Methodology & assessment
In daily online reviews participants will assess the course activities and their progress. This will guide the facilitators throughout the week. Peer assessment of activity products and group reflection will be used.
Materials, digital tools & other learning resources
Course materials will be shared with participants in physical format during the course and will be available to participants online during and after the course. Some common digital tools will be used in e.g. pre-course survey & needs analysis before the course and frequently during the course.
Certification details
Certificates of attendance specifying the total number of hours and the main course contents will be awarded. Europass certificates will be issued on request.

Course package content:
The course fee covers tuition and materials as well tutoring / mentoring before, during and after the course as well as administrative costs and issuing the course certificates.
The fee also includes the facilitation by the organiser for arranging accommodation at Dunlin Village student apartments on the University of Galway campus.

Cancellation & changes:
After registering online (completing the pre-course survey) and confirming participation by responding to an email from the course provider, the participant is expected to attend the course and responsible to paying the course fee. The invoices will be sent c. 7 weeks before the course starts. In case of illness or other unforeseen circumstances, the course fee can either be transferred to another person from the same project or returned to the payee with a deduction of 50€.
