Climate-adaptive playground and outdoor learning at Sint Paulus

Ƶing for sustainability aims to create an environmentally conscious and sustainable learning space for students, teachers and the wider community. Sint-Paulusschool in Kortrijk, Belgium is using their climate-adaptive playground, digital devices and nature to teach their students the impact they can have on the world around them.

Ƶing for sustainability: towards a green future

In the context of the climate and environmental emergency, education for sustainability should become a priority focus area of schools. There are many approaches teachers and schools can take to explore these issues with their students. Below, we look at a number of EU-funded projects and initiatives that support teaching and learning about the environment and sustainability.

Education for Sustainable Development: how do you teach a lifestyle?

What we do today will have implications for the lives of future generations. This seemingly obvious statement takes on a new significance when put into context – our planet’s natural resources are finite, and over seven billion people populate the Earth. Education for Sustainable Development programmes aim to find sustainable solutions to global issues by reorienting education. The following three projects contribute to this mission!

Makers of the future: creating sustainability together

How can we empower children and young people to be reflective and responsible citizens, and to understand complex challenges like climate change? The co-design approach can be a path to success. In this article, a number of views and examples of successful activities are provided by Professor Maija Aksela of the University of Helsinki.

Ecofriendly schools for a brighter future

Modern civilisation is already starting to wear on our planet. We care about the environment and about the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals – but how do we practise what we preach? This is one subject where teachers should not hesitate to learn along with their students.

Teaching about the environment: “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”

A changing lifestyle and consumerist attitude – the urge to have more, better, newer – make it necessary to update teaching about the environment and climate change. Ƶing approaches need to highlight the interaction between man and environment – to show how important a role each of us plays and what the consequences of our actions are. Anna Rabajczyk, from the University of Bielsko-Biala, argues that a new educational paradigm is important both for ourselves and for the places where we live.
