Education stops hate: Stopping hate in the classroom before it arrives

Too often, hate-fuelled ideologies can permeate secondary schools, triggering a process of early exclusion and an increase in the school dropout rates of segregated groups. The project was carried out to prevent, detect and act against this threat.
This project worked with groups that already support refugees, disabled persons and culturally segregated people. The outputs of the project can be applied to detect and address situations of hate speech, discrimination or exclusion in a classroom.
Through the 2-year-long project, resources were created to address five key areas where hate speech and segregation could occur: inclusion, gender equality, cultural diversity, sexual diversity and freedom of speech.
Main focus and outputs:
- : online tool that collects information from the pupils, which is analysed for an impact report and personalised action plans for each situation.
- : kits to promote coexistence, inclusion and empathy.
- : programme for teachers to achieve a fully inclusive classroom, where Roma students can overcome barriers and reach educational success.
- : guide lays the foundations of the report on hate speech in the classroom.
- The : 66 educational resources in both Spanish and English, comprised of instructive units, videos, posters, surveys and teaching guidelines, classroom actions and documents with links to other resources.
The materials created are visual and help to make key issues in today’s societies visible and understandable. Its approach to issues of great social importance and the relationship between research and practice in the classroom is appreciated.
