Dans ta tête: new approaches to challenging pupils

This project was designed to empower pupils who have difficulty in school tasks with different learning styles and ways to implement them.

'Dans ta tête' project

(In your head) is a project created for the pupils who work hard but do not perform well in class. These pupils are often demotivated and labelled as difficult, further affecting their engagement in the classroom. These pupils often have different styles of learning that neither they, nor their teachers, are aware of.

The project used different scientific approaches (neurolinguistic programming, mental management, neuropedagogy, speech pedagogy) to help teachers walk in these pupils’ shoes, to help them find their learning style and succeed in the classroom.

The project has created 30 pedagogical sheets and 10 educational videos that are easy to understand for pupils. The sheets and videos are grouped into 3 boxes:

  • Box 1 focuses on the brain and emotions, allowing pupils to dive into resources and learn more about themselves and how their minds work.
  • Box 2 focuses on functions of the brain such as learning, attention and memorisation.
  • Box 3 dives into school subjects such as geography, problem solving and mathematical formulas.

The materials are available in French, with automatic English subtitles for the videos.

A 138-page (in French) comprehensively documents the mental techniques explained in the sheets (backed up by extracts from the literature) and offers implementation activities for the classroom.

The project organised classroom testing with teachers, who appreciated the materials greatly. Pupils similarly showed great interest in  the topic and wanted to discuss it further.

Comments by the external reviewers on this resource:

This is a remarkable collection of worksheets, with an accompanying teacher’s guide to support children in learning independently. The materials help pupils to understand how their brain works in learning, to become more aware of their own cognitive processes and to take ownership of their identities as ‘actors in their own learning’.
