Description
In the first course of the course series on Unlocking the Power of Teacher Digital Competence, we delve into real-world case studies to understand how teachers like you can use digital technologies to help you access information to enhance your teaching and learning practices, to effectively communicate with and support students and parents, and to share and learn with colleagues and others beyond the school. We also investigate how digital technologies can enhance your own professional development and how it can support the overall improvement of your school.
The course targets B2 level proficiency for the 9 competences of the “Professional Engagement” competence area as defined by the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) and the SELFIE for TEACHERS Tool. This includes:
- Organisational communication
Online learning environments
Professional collaboration
Digital technologies and school level infrastructure
Reflective practice
Digital life
Professional learning (through digital technologies)
Professional learning (about digital technologies)
Computational thinking

- use digital technologies for your own professional development, analysing and selecting professional learning resources and activities based on your own needs.
- analyse and select digital technologies based on their features and how they can support collaboration tasks with colleagues and other education stakeholder
- analyse and select digital technologies available in your school based on their features and suitability to enhance your professional practice
- analyse and select digital technologies based on their features and suitability for your organisational communication needs
- analyse and assess your digital footprint to adjust your behaviour and to help curate your own reputation online and that of your school
- analyse the features of online learning environments and apply the ones that best respond to the ethical considerations and data management strategy of your school
- analyse the outcomes of a process of reflection to improve the use of digital technologies in your professional practice
- analyse and select responses generated by algorithms
Methodology & assessment
There is a later deadline for submitting your final mandatory activity and reviewing your peers, no live sessions, and no required meeting times. While the original course included scheduled discussions, this version allows independent learning with the same materials and guidance.
Forum discussions and Padlet contributions will not be moderated, fostering a fully self-directed experience.
Please note that to receive a certificate you will have to successfully complete the quiz at the end of module 2 and pass the final activity at the end of module 4.
The course is now open for self-paced learning.
Certification details
Upon successful completion of the course, a digital course certificate is awarded. The certificate shows the name of the learner and key course details such as the estimated learning hours, the learning objectives, and a link to the course homepage.
