
Through the Lens: Filmmaking, Creativity and Storytelling through teaching (Corfu)
An intensive course for teachers, youth leaders and educators in all disciplines.
A course for educational and vocational training inspectors, head teachers, teacher trainers, English language teachers of all backgrounds, pedagogical or guidance advisors.
Description
This one-week course will focus on the techniques and theory through practice in the way we are using our creative thought to produce interesting stories and films. During the course of this seminar the participants will learn how to create interesting stories using Aristotle’s model of tragedy and how to create a script. In the second part of the workshop the participants will begin to create their own projects (fiction, documentary or experimental) and will learn the way to use their mobile phones in order to create high quality footage. In the last part of the workshop the participants will edit their films and present their work.
Follow-up:
Attendees will receive handouts and self-evaluation forms as well as feedback forms on the course itself. Social networking will be set up to maintain contact after the end of the course and continue any discussions begun during the course, as well as to exchange feedback on how the skills taught in the course are being implemented.
Ƶing objectives
The aim of this hands-on course is for the participants to learn how to create interesting and technically sufficient films with their mobile phones. Also, the participants will learn how to use this knowledge in order to use it as a tool in their teaching activities or in their professional workspace. Skills like scriptwriting, filming and editing are tools that are extremely useful today regardless the discipline of your profession.
Methodology & assessment
– Module 1: Introductions and an in-class seminar on Story and Creativity, followed by practical exercises exploring Creativity and Story.
– Module 2: Participants will learn the way to create interesting scripts using Aristotle’s model and the theories of Campbell and Vogler.
– Module 3: Participants start the development of their stories in response to the previous workshops.
– Module 4: Technical training on mobile shooting. Participants start shooting their short films on location.
– Module 5: Participants learn how to edit their films and this is followed by screenings and discussion.
Materials, digital tools & other learning resources
Attendees will receive handouts, self-evaluation forms, and feedback forms to assess the course experience. Social networking platforms will be set up to maintain connections after the course, enabling continued discussions and feedback exchange on how the skills learned are being applied in practice. Additional modules focusing on subject- or issue-specific topics are available and can be delivered at a later date or through webinars.
