Description

This course will take place on a sailing ship named Galaxie. The boat will be a floating school. 

Starting from Palma de Mallorca we will discover a wide range of places, peoples and influences that once came from the sea and left their traces in this western area of the Mediterranean. 

The course will be focus on three main pedagogical techniques; Life Ƶing Experience, Gamification and Project Based Ƶing.

There will be contents on almost all kinds of knowledge (Biology, History, Literature, Physics, Mathematics, Arts, Sports...)

If you are new into Erasmus projects, this course will give you a very close idea to what the students mobilities are like, applying some of the most innovative, efficient and fun pedagogics. If you are not new, you will improve on your knowledge on Erasmus projects looking for excellence and good practices.

 

Ƶing objectives

1. History and Cultural Heritage

Maritime past, including ships, harbors, monuments, architecture, landscapes, and literature. Cultural legacy left behind by early sailors and settlers

 

2. Migration as a European Phenomenon

How maritime routes shaped the movement of people (immigration and emigration) along time

 

3. Navigation and Mathematics

Participants will explore the science behind maritime navigation.

 

4. Sailing Skills and Techniques

Practical sessions on the technical skills needed to sail, wind and currents, and seafaring techniques

 

5. Sustainability

Core theme, focusing on reducing human impact on marine ecosystems. Participants will learn about responsible sailing, the importance of conservation, and sustainable use of ocean resources

 

6. Marine biology

Oceanography, and physics, investigating ocean currents, winds, and the relationship between sea and landscape ecosystems

 

7. Cultural Expressions

Sea creative expression through songs, poetry, and visual art

Methodology & assessment

1. Project-Based Ƶing (PBL: Participants will engage in real-world maritime projects such as planning navigation routes, conducting marine biology research, or designing sustainable sailing solutions.
2. Collaborative Ƶing: This approach focuses on teamwork, where participants solve problems and complete tasks together, simulating real-world sailing operations.
3. Lifelong Ƶing Experience: The skills and knowledge gained in this program will stay on mind for very long, as they are obtained through real life practice.
4. Outdoors Ƶing: Ƶing will take place in natural environments, such as at sea or along the coast, with participants directly engaging in programed activities.
5. Gamification: This strategy integrates game-like elements, such as challenges, rewards, and quests, into the learning experience. For instance, participants may compete to navigate a boat using minimal resources or earn points for identifying marine species.
6. CoRubrics technique assessment

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

  • Physical logbook.  This will be the final object created by each participant, where all the experiences along the week should be reflected.  (this material will be given by the organization)
  • Diferent apps for gamification activities (you will need your own mobil phone or tablet)
  • Especific biography on the topic on the boats library.
  • You will need your own computer or a tablet for the course.  There will we WIFi available at the boat.

    • Room and board included in the price
    • The participants will sleep on board, on a double cabin.  
    • There will be a total of 8 participants.
    • Breakfast, lunch and 2 dinners included (the days we will be out sailing). The nights (4) the boat will stay moored into Palma port dinners not included (there are some cooking facilities at the boat and plenty restaurants around the port).
    • Moorings, fuel, all expenses related to the boat included.
    • Transfer from the airport not included (cost 20€ aprox.)

    Description of the services and activities included in the course package (such as accommodation, meals, transport) or available at extra cost.
  • Cancellation & changes:

    More than 90 days in advance: 100% refund (less commissions).

    Between 60 and 90 days in advance: 50% refund.

    Less than 60 days: No refund.

    Date changes: Subject to availability and possible fare adjustments.

    Modifications: Not permitted within 60 days prior to arrival.

    Force majeure: Date change or credit is offered, subject to availability.

    Cancellation request: Must be made in writing via email.
