Cultural and Natural Heritage: Safeguarding Natural Spaces and Cultural Legacy (Larnaka, Cyprus)
In today's rapidly changing world, the need for sustainable practices has become crucial. The concepts of sustainability, ecoliteracy, cultural heritage, and the environment are interconnected, forming the pillars for a harmonious and prosperous future. As the educational systems strive to preserve and protect our planet, it is crucial to understand the connections between these elements.
Description
As humans, we strive to preserve our history, focusing mainly on buildings and sites. Until recently, we overlooked cultural elements, customs, and nature. Thankfully, today there’s a growing awareness of nature and culture as vital parts of our legacy. Cultural and natural heritage share a symbiotic relationship: preserving culture promotes identity and community, while sustainable practices protect the ecosystems that support traditions. Safeguarding these elements ensures future generations retain their identities. It is our duty to integrate these principles into policies and education to secure a sustainable future.
This course will unite educators to explore the connection between cultural and natural heritage. Through workshops, hands-on experiences, and onsite activities, participants will learn innovative methods to build a stronger relationship between people, culture, and environment. Teachers will leave equipped to inspire students to protect and value our shared heritage.
Ƶing objectives
With this course, we aim to reinforce a sense of identity and community while promoting environmentally conscious practices. We want to create a more sustainable and resilient world that respects and preserves our cultural heritage and the environment for generations to come. But we also want the future generations to respect their cultural and natural heritage and realise that these are interrelated and can lead to a more harmonious and thriving world. It is thus essential to create innovative lesson plans that connect cultural and natural heritage to enhance responsibility for heritage preservation among students.
Furthermore, we aim to facilitate our participants in their quest for networking and collaborating with other participants and institutions. Following the original objectives of Erasmus+, we take very seriously the exchange of ideas, experiences and methodologies. Thus, our day to day programme includes theory, discussion, onsite activities and practice.
