Description

This course is designed to help you to ignite your passion for creative expression, to give you confidence in your communicative ability and to help you in bringing your classroom into a space of inspiration and creativity.

Through hands-on, and interactive activities, you will discover diverse narratives and perspectives that should enrich your thoughts, emotions, intuitions, beliefs, and values. You will be able to write, draw, sing, paint, or even dance your ideas and emotions! You will understand the significance of the body in teaching and learning. This will broaden your understanding and enrich your ability to inspire and captivate your students with creative expressive approaches which integrate mind, body and emotions in learning.

This course will use a variety of training approaches and strategies, including engaging workshops, embodied pedagogies, using a varied modality of texts, dynamic group discussions, and immersive field learning projects. Participants will also improve their communication skills in English through the exploration of significant exponents of literature, film, art, society, and more, as sources of inspiration and deeper insight into the cultural significance of the creative process.

Participants should be teachers of English working in secondary education, with a minimum level of English corresponding to C1 or C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Teachers in general, working in other areas of secondary education and those with a personal interest in creative writing, might also benefit from the creative writing approaches.

Ƶing objectives

The specific objectives of the programme are:

  • To foster creativity through interaction and self-exploration so that the creative potential of participants can be released and that they can stimulate their students’ creativity as a result.
  • To explore the literary and cultural richness of the host country to gain an understanding and appreciation of its rich heritage.
  • To encourage participants to incorporate creative techniques and resources into their classroom.
  • To provide opportunities to interact with colleagues of other nationalities, and exchange ideas, materials, and experiences.
  • To promote links and partnerships within a European Dimension in education.
  • To enhance participants’ communicative competence in English.

Methodology & assessment

The course will use several training strategies:
• Interactive Workshops to help to engage in practical activities that focus on various aspects of creative writing. These workshops will stimulate creativity and self-expressive abilities that can support teaching.
• Dynamic Group Discussions to collaborate with colleagues and share insights, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback in a supportive environment, enhancing learning and teaching experiences.
• Field Ƶing Projects ('Contexts4Content'): Immersion in real-world contexts of Ireland through exploration of historical and cultural exponents to gain first-hand experience and inspiration.
• Collaborative Projects to encourage teamwork and collective problem-solving. These projects are designed to harness the collective creativity of the group, resulting in innovative teaching ideas.
• Peer Reviews and Feedback sessions to present work and receive feedback from fellow participants. This process helps refine ideas and productions.
• Cultural Analysis and Appreciation of key works of literature, cinema, and art. Sessions will encourage to incorporate these cultural elements into teaching.
• Resource Development to create a portfolio of resources and creative writing prompts that participants can take back to their classrooms.
• Reflection and Evaluation on participants' learning journey and progress. This reflective practice will help identify strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring a continuous professional growth.
The main expectation of the course, however, will be the willingness of the participants to enter the spirit of the programme and the cultural framework that Ireland represents.
