Description

European competence is the continuation of the peace project started by the previous generation, which we must now lead into the future. ºìÌÒÊÓƵing about and living Europe is crucial for the next generation. The impacts of the euro crisis, Brexit, migration challenges, and the Russia-Ukraine war make Europe more relevant than ever. However, many citizens, especially young people, are unaware of the EU’s achievements and the historical context prior to its formation. It is vital to introduce them to the significance of Europe in all its aspects.

To equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to be responsible European citizens, we must implement action- and experience-based learning. This approach engages students in understanding their European neighbours. The Certificate Course in European Competence supports teachers in integrating European topics across subjects, fostering hands-on experiences that inspire interest and collaboration in a cooperative future.

ºìÌÒÊÓƵing objectives

The primary aim of the course is to strengthen teachers in their tasks of promoting the European idea through content-related and methodological impulses. For this reason, a large part of the course will be devoted to personal dialogue on European topics. Participants will also have the opportunity to network internationally and make valuable contacts for European action- and experince- oriented projects that extend beyond the seminar.

Methodology & assessment

In addition to passing on methodological and content-related aids for action- and experience-oriented European education, the focus of this seminar is on enriching personal encounters and the exchange of experiences between teachers from different nations, countries and school types.

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

The course provides an broad range of digital tools, innovative methods, and valuable information. A unique feature of the seminar is the opportunity to actively try out these materials and methods, with built-in moments for reflection to deepen learning. Discover more details on our website.

Certification details

Participants will prepare to implement a teaching unit or project on 'Europe' in their schools. This project will be presented at a certification ceremony, typically within one year of completing the seminar, though participants have up to two years to finalise their work based on individual circumstances. The project culminates in the awarding of the European Competence Certificate by the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein, which will also carry the EU logo as the course is EU-funded.
