Beyond CLIL: Engaging Students through the 4Cs – Cognition, Communication, Culture and Collaboration

If you are already familiar with the principles of CLIL, this course will help you to develop new strategies to engage more effectively with your students. It is delivered by Atlantic Centre of Education in Galway in the west of Ireland.

Description

Beyond CLIL: Engaging Students through the 4Cs aims to explore how we can use the tools of interpersonal development to enrich engagement with students in the classroom. Applying the principles of cognition, communication, culture and collaboration to your teaching practice, will help to make the classroom experience more rewarding for both learner and educator.

  • Ƶ about the 4Cs and how to integrate them into your classes  
  • Gain an understanding of the creative process and its relation to critical thinking  
  • Ƶ how to apply creative problem-solving models to class tasks  
  • Explore how to foster communication abilities in your students  
  • Consider the impact of culture in student engagement
  • Develop your own teaching materials in skills focused workshops based on communicative and problem-solving techniques 
  • Share your knowledge and skills in feedback sessions in which participants reflect on their own practice. 
  • Build intercultural awareness through cultural and heritage trips   
  • Gain confidence in English through international group classes

Methodology & assessment

The course takes place over 6 days and consists of 25 learning hours including tuition, cultural workshops, a guided historical walking tour of Galway city and 1 full-day cultural tour. The teaching approach is communicative and interactive with participants working to complete project tasks, including a portfolio of lesson resources and materials. Participants receive feedback on their work from the course trainers and also benefit from peer input when sharing with the group.

Certification details

Participants are awarded a signed Course Certificate in line with Erasmus Quality Standards showing the course name, the participant’s name, the course location, course dates and course duration.
