As a Turkish Language and Literature teacher, the Etwinning project on water conservation has provided numerous benefits to our students, both academically and creatively. Through this interdisciplinary project, students were encouraged to explore environmental themes while improving their language skills.
One of the most significant contributions of the project was the enhancement of students’ writing abilities. By creating stories, fairy tales, and digital narratives centered around the theme of water conservation, students developed their imagination, narrative structure, and expressive power. Writing digital fairy tales and stories allowed students to combine traditional storytelling techniques with modern technology, fostering creativity and digital literacy simultaneously.
In addition, students engaged in gamifying water-related proverbs, which not only helped them better understand the meaning and cultural significance of these sayings but also made the learning process more engaging and memorable. This creative approach to language learning reinforced vocabulary, figurative expressions, and moral lessons conveyed through traditional proverbs.
Furthermore, students were encouraged to develop their own water-saving projects, plans, and ideas. This not only raised their awareness of environmental issues but also promoted critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Integrating such real-world issues into the classroom made learning more meaningful and relevant.
Overall, the Etwinning project effectively supported the development of students’ linguistic, cognitive, and creative skills while promoting environmental responsibility and active citizenship.
Moreover, being in constant interaction with our colleagues, international partners, our Romanian collaborators, and other stakeholders in Turkey has provided mutual benefits. This collaboration has enriched our perspectives, allowed for the exchange of ideas and best practices, and significantly contributed to the success of the project.
