“Mathematics is generally considered as a separate science, disconnected from reality, living in the dark of the cabinet, a closed cabinet, where no noise from the outside world, neither the sun nor the cries of men enter” (Bento Jesus Caraça, in Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics). However, mathematics has many applications in our daily lives. Lobatchevsky already said that there is no branch of mathematics, however abstract, that cannot be applied, sooner or later, to the phenomena of the real world. Mathematics is, in fact, an instrument at the service of man in the most varied branches of science and technology. In this project, students will be challenged to find mathematics and its applications in daily life, namely: in music, advertising, sport, games, economics, medicine, science, physics, chemistry , in art, in nature, in the kitchen ... It is intended that students carry out research, interviews, confront ideas, with students from other countries, finding similarities and differences and recognizing the importance of mathematics in our lives! For example, in the theme "Mathematics and Art" students can make known the monuments of the cities where they live and their relationship with mathematics (Geometry) and other areas of knowledge, such as history, geography, among other areas; in the theme "Mathematics and Gastronomy", where the proportions in mathematics will be worked, they can compare recipes and different eating habits in different countries. The applicability of mathematics in the differences in the areas and the difference between the teaching methods and cultures of the countries, will enrich the project. The project will be proposed for students from 6 to 15 years old, and it can be extended to younger, pre-school age, or older students, that is, secondary school students. The themes to be worked on will always take into account the reality of each country and the age group of the students, which can be adapted. I would like teachers from various disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, science, art, music… from different countries to participate in the project, so that the project was as comprehensive as possible.
