I am a global citizen

A global citizen appreciates the benefits of being part of the worldwide community, understands his or her responsibilities, and takes an active role in improving life worldwide. A key characteristic of a global citizen is to understand how people and countries are interconnected and to feel a responsibility to work for the well-being of all. After all, every action we take can have an impact on people far away, and our quality of life also depends on people, politicians, institutions, and organizations around the world. Being a global citizen therefore means feeling personally responsible for the way we interact and cooperate with everyone else. When we talk about young children and global citizenship, we can say this: being a good global citizen means being friendly and caring. Young children learn to understand that all people are important and that we need to share and help others because we are all part of a big global family. Children need to understand how their actions can help make the world a better place, for example by being kind to their friends or taking care of nature. Talking about nature and teaching children to love and protect the Earth and its resources can start from a young age. Children need two things - wings and roots. Strengthening roots starts not only with family ties but also with fostering national identity and citizenship. In this project, we'll learn about different countries, their capitals and flags. We will also measure the distance from our own country to the other partner countries, study the language, traditions, famous buildings and landmarks, learn about the currencies of the other countries, etc. As global citizens, we will also pay attention to the principles of sustainability. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflect the 17 areas of sustainability and the world's biggest challenges, from poverty and equal opportunities to climate change and world peace.
