eTwinners are Global Citizens

This school year eTwinning focuses on citizenship education, with an emphasis on active citizenship, critical thinking and learning about the EU and its values. In the 2024-2029 Political Guidelines, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlights the need to protect democracy, engage citizens in decision-making, support young people and promote shared European values. We will try to build on this by encouraging teachers and students to participate in our projects on and discussions about inclusion, equality, human rights and democracy during the 2024–2025 school year. While the new Education Model curriculum, which is considered the new model of the Turkish Education System, emphasizes the development of students' 21st century skills such as "critical thinking" and "questioning", it also frequently refers to the importance of being a "competent, virtuous person and active citizen. ‘’ No one is born a good citizen; No nation is born as a democracy. Rather, both are processes that continue to evolve over a lifetime. Young people must be involved from birth. A society that breaks away from its youth cuts off its lifeline.’’ As the seventh United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan said we aim to achieve this goal. "The one who loves his country the most is the one who does his duty best." This quote from our eternal and only Commander-in-Chief and the founder of Turkish Rebublic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, is our basic motto to be a good citizen.
