Cultural Cliches - Between Perception and Reality

Starting from the idea that we generally tend to judge (even unconsciously) other nationalities through the lens of some preconceived ideas or cultural cliches (for example: Italians are talkative and romantic, Romanians are known to be good hosts but poor, Swiss are precise, Gemans are quick, English people are cold etc), the project aims at exploring these positive or negative stereotypes in order to answer this puzzling question: How can we be open to European DIVERSITY and at the same preserve our traditional roots, our National and CULTURAL IDENTITY? The answer to solve this dilemma, lies, in our perception, in learning the skill to critically read and DECODE the so-called CULTURAL CLICHES... and USE them in a positive way, as an instrument to PROMOTE both our cultural and European identity as we see them as two symbiotic concepts. To put it simply, we want to play the role of some cultural mythbusters (I derived the phrase from a famous TV reality show Mythbusters) to test with our pupils the truths behind these myths through creative student-centered activities which will develop intercultural, linguistic, digital and research skills as well.
