The Changing Face of Europe

In the European Union, culture significantly influences the economy. Culture defines our identity, aspirations and how we relate to each other and the world around us. It also leaves its mark on the environment we live in and has a major influence on our lifestyle. The rapid pace at which technologies are evolving represents both an opportunity and a challenge for Europe's cultural industries. The challenges are significant. Cultural diversity is an asset for the EU, but linguistic and cultural differences have the effect of fragmenting the market. Each country in the European Union approaches the aspects related to culture in its own way. Europe's cultural vision will have to be based on citizen involvement in the future. To benefit economically from our cultural diversity and to promote respect and understanding between cultures, we need to include in policies at all levels measures to improve access to culture in the education sector, to boost cultural production. Beyond a cultural, economic and political Europe there is an educational Europe. Even more, it can be said that the European value primarily means a change in attitude, mentality and skills. This change involves the entire educational system.
