BBC: Breaking Boundaries in K-12 Classrooms

The BBC project, a transnational initiative, officially commenced on September 1, 2024. Its primary objective is to enhance the quality and inclusivity of STEM education at the K-12 level. The project focuses on sharing best practices for creating gender-inclusive classroom environments, raising awareness about STEM, and integrating gender equity topics into daily teaching practices. Spanning 12 months, the project brings together a consortium of institutions, including Abdelmalek Essaadi University (Morocco), Kiel University (Germany), Linköping University (Sweden), Università Della Svizzera Italiana and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (Switzerland), as well as Yeditepe University and ISTEK Acıbadem Schools (Türkiye). Targeting both pre-service and in-service teachers, the project stands out for its innovative approach to embedding gender-inclusive practices into classroom teaching. Through participatory design workshops and focus groups, teachers will be trained to adapt their lesson plans, ensuring that gender inclusivity becomes an integral and sustained aspect of their pedagogy. The project aspires to create lasting change and close the gender gap in STEM education.
