The event brought together teachers from all over Europe to explore ways to incorporate European values into their teaching practices.

The first day began with two keynote presentations. Dr Nikolaos Mouratoglou, pedagogical and monitoring coordinator for eTwinning and the European School Education Platform, provided insights into the role of eTwinning in promoting European values in the classroom.

Schools are identified as critical spaces for discussing values, and young people express a desire for more structured and frequent opportunities for such discussions.’

Jasna Kovačević, associate professor at the School of Economics and Business, University of Sarajevo, followed with a speech on the importance of inclusive leadership in transforming European school cultures. She highlighted how inclusive leaders are key in promoting diversity, reducing prejudice and fostering a community built on equality, empathy and respect for differing perspectives.

‘Storytelling is the best tool we have for effectively communicating about big, systemic issues.’

The day ended with a productive networking session, where teachers exchanged ideas and connected in an engaging environment.

On the second day, participants attended workshops that provided practical tools for teaching European values such as democracy, equality, human rights, and the rule of law.

The workshops focused on topics including:

  • active student participation;
  • incorporating values into history and vocational education;
  • fostering lifelong learning;
  • critical thinking;
  • promoting inclusive leadership and active citizenship.

The day concluded with a cultural walk organised by the National Support Organisation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the final day, participants presented their project ideas and engaged in a panel discussion on the importance of values in education, featuring case studies.

Throughout the onsite course, teachers explored hands-on strategies for integrating EU values into their curricula. They looked at effective ways to embed these ideas across subject areas and encourage inclusive leadership and active citizenship in their classrooms.
