About
Who are we?
The Comprehensive Institute of Castelvetrano-Selinunte has introduced a new didactic direction this year. The institute is comprised of twelve plexuses located across the region. The curriculum focuses on both vertical and transversal learning, spanning from pre-school to primary and secondary schools. The institute promotes language literacy through various initiatives such as the school library, participation in the national 'Best Reader' competition, and language certifications. Additionally, there is a strong emphasis on digital literacy through the STEAM vertical curriculum. The institute also facilitates sports activities through the School Sports Centre. In terms of inclusion, Italian L2 courses are offered as well as alternative activities to religion. Additionally, individualized plans (PEI and PDP) are created for students. Well-being is prioritized through the provision of a school psychology desk, and safety is promoted through training courses.
The comprehensive school has a diverse student population ranging from 2½ to 14 years old. Around 15% of the students have dropped out or have repeated a grade. The school supports students at different stages of life and cognitive development, from childhood to pre-adolescence, and from concrete to abstract and formal thinking. The students come from a socio-economic and cultural background that is medium-low, with some being first or second generation immigrants. The school actively includes these students through inclusion projects and extracurricular activities. Approximately 2% of the primary school students and 2% of the secondary school students come from disadvantaged families. Additionally, around 17% of the school population consists of students with disabilities. Most students smoothly transition from primary to secondary school without facing difficulties.
