From Marconi to Podcasts: A Journey Through Radio History

Students from several schools in Europe collaborate and create their own radio station, and develop communication skills, teamwork and creativity. The main idea is that students become broadcasters, scriptwriters and producers of radio programs. They can address topics that interest them, such as the culture of their countries, school news, interviews or even debates on current issues. In addition, the use of digital tools allows them to record, edit and share their programs with other participating schools. They will also learn how radio began to develop at the end of the 19th century, when inventors started to experiment with the transmission of signals through radio waves initiating wireless communication to later become a means of mass communication. They will also learn how early radio stations began broadcasting entertainment, news and music programs, allowing people to connect in a new way, and how radio was especially popular during the Great Depression and World War II, providing information and distraction to people. You will see how over the years, radio technology has evolved. From AM and FM radio to digital and Internet radio, each advance has changed the way we listen to and consume content. Today, radio is still an important medium, even though it competes with streaming platforms and podcasts.
