About
Who are we?
Gimnazija was founded in 1871 in Smederevo. It is a school with a long educational tradition. Our students study social studies, science, languages and informational technologies.
We are a public school and part of state educational system.
We are trying to develope creativity, multicultural communications, cultural diversity,
interreligious dialogue and tolerance in a civil society. Gimnazija has 641 students aged 15 to 19 years old. The students at our school attend two departments ( socio-linguistic and science-mathematical) and two specialized departments ( philological and computer science ).
Our students come from urban and rural areas, with 516 students who come from different town’s schools and 125 students from schools in villages around Smederevo .
We also have students who attend our school from different cities or towns, and because of their schooling they are separated from their families (sometimes they rent a room or a flat).
Our students are from different social background, they come from complete families, but there are also students from single-parent families (either they are divorced, or one of parents passed away).
36 students had scholarship last year which is given by Republic of Serbia. There is a fund at our school for students from low-income families that can obtain scholarship.
In previous years we had students from Italy, Venezuela, Turkey and Russia who came on exchange and they attended our school for one year.
Our school also organized short students’ exchange with schools from Istanbul and Gioia del Colle where students stayed in families and they had opportunity to learn more about other cultures and their tradition.
We have 2 students with special need in learning.
The diversity of the students who attend our school represents an opportunity to develop tolerance, empathy and a chance to meet with different cultures and to appreciate them.
