The NICE project: toleraNce, Inclusion and acceptAnce in Europe

Upper scondary schools have several problems to deal with and stand before a crossroad where several changes emerge. One of the challenges is to manage differences among students such as ethnicity, religious (sometimes extremist religious ideas) or socioeconomic background. Lately, these differences have taken new forms of protest movements focusing on immigration from foreign countries. Some of these movements are confusing the public. Other challenges are represented by the role of sexual identity where many cultures and intitutions still regard the nuclear family as the only accepted one. Nowadays the family idea is widened so there is a palette of many different varieties of families. The western world seems to be dominated by freedom of speech and tolerance but something is changing: nationalistic movements are on the rise with intolerant agendas. We would like to re-act against intolerance starting from schools to promote a tolerant and humanistic approach to the European project
