
“Green Classroom: Teaching Methods of Outdoor Education”
Main aim of the course is to introduce the concept of experiential learning through outdoor education allowing participants to create their own meaningful and engaging learning processes for their students. This Erasmus+ training course places great importance on sharing specific knowledge and skills as well as the importance of changing the behavior and attitudes towards the environment.

Programme of training activities day-by-day:
MONDAY (Day 1)
Module 1: Welcome and registration; Ice-breaking and Warm Ups. Team-building session
Introduction: Teaching and Ƶing Outdoors:
- Goals of the Outdoor Classroom;
- Different Types of Outdoor Education;
- Tips for Creating a Positive Outdoor Experience for Students:
- TEACHER MINDSET;
- PREPARE STUDENTS BEFORE GOING OUTSIDE;
- MANAGEMENT TIPS;
- Environmentally Friendly Classroom: Simple Tips for Going Green
TUESDAY (Day 2)
Module 2: Workshop: Taking Curriculum Outside:
- APPROACH 1: MOVING INDOOR CURRICULUM OUTSIDE;
- APPROACH 2: INTEGRATING THE OUTDOORS INTO THE CURRICULUM
WEDNESDAY (Day 3)
Module 3: Workshop: Outdoor Classroom Management:
- Setting the Stage:
- GETTING TEACHERS COMFORTABLE IN THE OUTDOOR CLASSROOM;
- OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DESIGN;
- PREPARE FOR GOING OUTSIDE AND STUDENT COMFORT;
- QUICK OUTDOOR CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TIPS;
- COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS
THURSDAY (Day 4)
Module 4: Workshop: Green Classroom: Life Lab — Garden-based Education:
- Life Lab’s Approach to Garden-based Professional Ƶing: WHY, TRY, APPLY;
- FACILITATING PEER-TO-PEER LEARNING;
- Common Core in the Garden
FRIDAY (Day 5)
Module 5: Workshop: OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FOR SCHOOL GROUNDS
SATURDAY (Day 6)
Module 6:Course conclusion: Outdoor learning as a pedagogical approach
SUNDAY (Day 7)
Module 7: Feedback, course evaluation and dissemination focus: Delivery of Certificates of Attendance.
IMPORTANT: PARTICIPANTS COULD ATTEND 5, 6, 7 OR MORE DAYS IN ACCORDANCE TO THEIR APPLICATION. COURSE FEE INCLUDES TRAINING, COURSE DOCUMENTS (TEMPLATES WILL BE SENT TO PARTICIPATING TEACHERS), COFFEE BREAKS, STATIONARY, SIGHTSEEING, SCHOOL VISIT AT MOST LOCATIONS WHERE THE COURSE WILL BE HELD.
Ƶing objectives
- Gain basic knowledge about theory and methodology of outdoor educational pedagogy and experiential learning;
- Acquire skills to implement more experience-based learning to enrich their everyday teaching practice and enhance students’ motivation;
- Ƶ how to design and carry out experiential and active learning activities in outdoor settings;
- Discover innovative ways to use games, drama and improvisation techniques to promote “learning by doing”;
- Broaden their understanding of how outdoor education contributes to personal development and social skills of learners;
- Identify the ways to use outdoor education to teach about environmental issues;
- Develop personal and social skills through outdoor activities and lessons;
- Develop competences regarding applying outdoor education in different formal settings in order to improve the motivation of the students;
- Acquire tools, ideas and best practices as well as practical experience and first-hand knowledge on how to integrate outdoor education in formal education;
- Acquire basic skills and tools to lead a range of group exercises and challenges, problem solving games, experiential activities in the nature, on school sites, in local parks as well as in urban settings;
- Share best practices and transfer knowledge and methods between different cultural zones and different learner ages;
- Increase participants’ confidence in working with non-formal methods, using their own qualities, talents, differences, as well as the collective intelligence of the home team they will guiding in the valorisation process;
- Foster excellence and innovation in education by equipping teachers and education staff with the basic knowledge and skills to integrate outdoor education activities in their education programmes;
- Promote European cooperation in the field of education within the framework of the Erasmus+ program by partnership building;
- Develop risk assessment and applying safety measures outdoors.
Methodology & assessment
Certification details
At the end of the course, each participant will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance along with Europass Mobility.
Our certificates are in line with the Erasmus Quality Standards and so include the course's title, short description of its learning outcomes (if requested), dates, venue, the name of the course provider and the course director, number of training hours.
We support participants in every step of certification and validation of learning outcomes with specific focus on European instruments and Erasmus+ requirements such as Ƶing Agreement, Quality Commitment and Europass mobility.
