Little Eco-Citizens: Caring for Our Planet

Little Eco-Citizens: Caring for Our Planet is an eTwinning project designed for young learners aged 5 to 10, aimed at inspiring environmental awareness, responsibility, and action. The project brings together students from diverse cultural backgrounds to explore and engage with important environmental topics such as sustainability, biodiversity, and the importance of protecting our unique planet, Earth. Adopting a holistic approach and fostering interdisciplinary learning, the project connects environmental education with social-emotional growth, cultural understanding, and civic responsibility. Students will connect with nature through outdoor activities like nature walks, clean-up campaigns, outdoor games, helping our loyal animal friends, creating art pieces with recycled materials, and planting initiatives—giving them firsthand experience of the value of preserving the environment. These experiences also offer opportunities to practice empathy, emotional awareness, and reflective thinking as they consider the impact of their actions on living beings and ecosystems. Through cross-border teamwork, creative expression, and interactive digital tools, children will not only deepen their understanding of global environmental challenges but also develop essential life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. By collaborating both locally and globally, students will build a sense of shared responsibility and emotional connection to the planet, becoming thoughtful, active “eco-citizens” dedicated to caring for their surroundings. Ultimately, this project will help young learners grow as compassionate and capable individuals, making a positive impact on the environment—both within their communities and around the world.
