Combining Approaches in the Literature and Language Ƶing 2022/2023 (Erasmus+ KA229 C.A.L.L. project)
"Combining Approaches in Literature and Language Ƶing", CALL, is a two-year project between four partner high schools from the Croatia, Turkey, Romania and Northern Macedonia. Aim of the exchange of good practices between teachers/schools is to strenghten regular curricula and tackle students poor reading rates and low level of academic skills achievement (reading, writing). Two educational analyzes were used on which cooperation between schools is based: a SWOT analysis in all 4 schools which showed that students have low level of academic skills (reading and writing skills) and that the most students are in some sort of disadvantaged status (geographical disparities, low economic development of the places in which they live, parental unemployment, low level of parental education, learning disabilities, social barriers) which directly affect their learning success and the achievement of the basic learning skills (reading, writing). Second analyze was the PISA results analyses (Dec, 2019) which shown how one in five students in average, in all schools, cannot complete basic reading and comprehension tasks. Project was planned with the main objective: to develop a comprenhensive approach of literature learning/teaching. In addition, according to a survey conducted in schools, teachers don't use enough ICT tools in classroom and even when they use, they don't have a clear perception of all possibilities of strategically planned digital and blended teaching. In addition, schools don't have a clearly defined international development strategies and they lack planned development in the area of curricula and teaching/learning skills and competences improvement.

CLOSING CONFERENCE - KARLOVAC, FROM JUNE 26 TO 28, 2023. 2nd day - "road trip" to Jozefina
We used the second day of mobility for a "road trip" around Lika, visiting the Adriatic Sea and getting to know the cultural and historical heritage of Croatia.
Our first stop was Tounjski most, the only two-level bridge in Croatia and the only bridge in Croatia decorated with busts and memorial plaques. The first level of the bridge was built at the end of the 18th century, the second at the beginning of the 19th century on the famous Jozefini road that connected Karlovac with the Adriatic coast.
In Ogulin, we visited Ivana's Fairytale House - the birthplace of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, one of the most famous Croatian writers, the first female member of the Yugoslav (now Croatian) Academy of Sciences and Arts, a candidate for the Nobel Prize for Literature whose works have been translated into more than 40 languages.
Around noon, we were greeted by bears and volunteers who take care of them in Kuterevo, a shelter for neglected bears opened in the heart of Lika in 2002.
The last stop was the Adriatic coast and the small town of Senj, the hometown of Croatian writers Vjenceslav Novak and Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević and the town where the first Croatian Glagolitic printing house was founded at the end of the 15th century.
The closing conference of our Erasmus project C.A.L.L. started today in Karlovac. Participants are teachers, coordinators and principals of partner schools.
In the "Ivan Goran Kovačić" City Library, the program began with a panel discussion on the activities and implementation of the project, followed by a presentation in which the teacher Ljubinka Rtoska from North Macedonia's Veles provided an overview of all project activities, and how C.A.L.L. changed our schools were presented by teachers Ivana Lukač Vuković and Cristina Radu (Liceul teoretic "Tudor Arghezi" Craiova). In the afternoon we visited Aquatica, the largest freshwater aquarium in Croatia.
C.A.L.L. - A CLOSING CONFERENCE - Karlovac, Republic of Croatia, 26 - 28 June 2023
You may have wondered why we chose Karlovac to host the closing conference of our project. Located in the heart of Croatia (although every part of Croatia will say that it is the heart of Croatia, we know), also known as the City of Meetings, it is the perfect place for the last meeting of our C.A.L.L. project.
