The first Belgrade high school was founded back in 1839. For the first half-century of its existence, it was called the Belgrade High School, and when other high schools appeared in Belgrade at the end of the century, it changed its name to the First Belgrade High School. On the walls of this imposing building, the figures of Prince Petar Karađorđević, Ljuba Nenadović, Stepa Stepanović, Radomir Putnik, Živojin Mišić, Svetozar Marković, Milovan Glišić, Stevan Sremac, Laza Lazarević, Petr Kočić, Vojislav Ilic, Jovan Skerlić, Kornelij Stanković, Stevan Mokranjac, Jovan Cvijić Mihajlo Petrović Alas, Moše Pijada, Peđa Milosavljević, Oskar Davičo and many other famous students and professors of this school and. Due to its importance and exceptional educational role, the First Belgrade High School was declared a cultural monument, and it is no exaggeration to say that it belongs to the group of national institutions of Serbia such as the National Library, the National Museum, and the State Archives. The anniversary of 180 years of existence was celebrated in 2019 (Project Prva and friends).oday, the First Belgrade High School has thirty-seven classes, 1,050 students divided into natural-mathematical, social-linguistic and classes for students with special abilities for computing and informatics, developed cabinet teaching and modern studies.
